On 18th December, 1917: Vedic (Yard Number 461) was launched at Harland & Wolff's Govan yard (in Scotland). She was the first geared turbine ship built by Harland & Wolff, and the first White Star ship to be powered solely by turbines. Although built at Govan, Vedic was engined at Belfast.
