The WS Line preferred to pronounce the name as 'Seltic' in the
Irish manner.
Celtic (1) was almost an exact replica of Adriatic (1).
Having just been handed over by Harland & Wolff to White Star on 18th
October, 1872, the new liner ran aground as she steamed down Belfast Lough.
However, she made her maiden voyage for WS later the same month.
In 1893, she was sold to a Danish owner and renamed Amerika. She
was scrapped in 1898. |
