Formerly Berlin(2) - employed by German naval forces as mine-layer for
a time during World War I and responsible for placing the mine which
damaged and sank HMS Audacious (see
Olympic Archive for
more information about that incident). After the Armistice, she was briefly
used as a troop-carrier (with a P&O crew) before being given to White
Star as compensation for loss of Arabic (2) - renamed after that vessel. |
